Mango Smoothie

Do you ever eat something and it’s just…not right. So not right that you can’t leave the meal at that. You have to redeem your meal. I went through that today. I was making my favorite mango smoothie and I noticed that there were some small bags of frozen mangos from Western Family in the back of my freezer that I never use. I couldn’t remember why. I just always used the “Name Brand” Mangos. Well, I was feeling a bit adventurous so I dug them out and decided to use them. So I decided to give it a try and I immediately remembered why I never use these. The mangos are less sweet and more tart. They’re not quite ripe. I’m not sure who Western Family is but they clearly don’t know mangos. Also, their mangos were sub-par for making smoothies. It doesn’t…how do I put this…smooth very well. Thicken, that’s the word. So it leaves you with less of a smooth and more of a mush. So I had tart mush. Now I know why those mangos are always stuck in the back. They’re “emergency” mango. Like thos...

Boba Fret

So another year, another Star Wars moving coming out. To those who haven’t asked yet, no I’m not going to see it. Not because of hate but more indifference. Why take a ticket away from someone who really wants to see it so that I, someone who doesn’t care one way or another, can. I hope its fun and there are some interesting new characters and stories I can enjoy once I finally do get around to watching it…whenever. See, I was never a big Star Wars guy. It took me ages until I finally sat down and actually watched the 3 movies instead of casually coming across them on cable (for those of you who forgot, cable was like Netflix only you couldn’t choose what to watch, when. That was all pre-decided.). So there’s no nostalgia there for me. In fact, kind of the opposite. The stuff that was cool as a kid, like Power Rangers, seems a bit dumb in hindsight and I’m flabbergasted people still think highly of them today. Case in point: Boba Fett. How did people fall in love with someone w...

Microwave

You know what's an underrated appliance? The microwave. You see, it snowed earlier this week so that means it's cold. I'm trying to keep warm and I remembered that the Eskimos had an old trick for keeping warm. I'm not sure what they called it in their language but in English it's called "Getting Fat". So I bought myself an apple pie along with some vanilla ice-cream. I could have made apple pie from scratch but that's work and burning calories is the opposite of what I want to do. So, being the college graduate that I am, I took my slice of pie and stuck it in the microwave. It works like a charm. The hot pie gets delicious and gooey and the cold ice-cream that slowly melts on top is the perfect compliment. Next time you're eating cold pie, don't. Treat yourself to a warm dessert by warming it up first. Your taste-buds will thank you.
