Friday the 13th

It’s Friday the 13th. I’m not sure why but some people have this superstitious belief that this day is cursed. Well, I’m here with a story to prove you wrong.

You see, back in college, my buddy thought this day was unlucky. He was worried something bad would happen. Naturally, I stepped in to show him it was a normal day just like any other.

“Watch.” I said. “I’ll ask someone out for lunch and nothing weird will happen.”

So I did. On Friday the 13th, we were set to have lunch at the Seasider, essentially a place to get fast food and ice-cream on campus. I was a fan of their grilled cheese, something you could get so cheap I felt like I was robbing the place each time I did.

Friday the 13th came around. It wasn’t till 11am that I got a text from her saying something came up and she wouldn’t be able to get lunch. I would later see on Facebook that the “something” was actually her getting lunch with another guy (She did get the grilled cheese I recommended so good on her for that).

“How does that prove that the day isn’t bad luck?!” My friend asked.

Clearly, I needed to draw him a map. Look. 2 people went out on a date and nothing bad happened. Sure, it wasn’t me. She ditched me. But she at least texted me before hand and told me. That hardly ever happens. And, lets face it, when it comes to dates, most of mine don’t even happen. If anything, all this just proves that Friday the 13th is a normal day just like any other. I ask someone out. She said yes. The date never happened. That’s normal for me. I’m not sure if that convinced my friend but it should certainly convince all of you. Yeah, that date being cancelled was a bit of a bummer. But what could you expect from me? I was born on a Friday the 13th after all.
