Bombing Dream
I had a dream last night. It’s odd that I’ve been dreaming
more lately. I used to never have dreams. Too afraid. I mean, the last black
guy who had a dream was shot and killed. Not sure about you guys but I’m
actively trying to avoid having that happen to me. That’s why I stay inside all
the time. Short of a robber breaking in or my roommate going postal, I think
I’m safe.
Anyway, back to the dream. I dreamed...dreamt…not sure which one it is. Whatever. I imagined that the neighborhood I was in got bombed. I saw some family members die. Neighbors lose their loved ones. Buildings turn to rubble around me. We tried to escape. Some of us got away. Others weren’t as fortunate. I was, for once in my life.
But good things that happen to me aren’t allowed to happen
and my dream knew that. So I was traveled back in time to just before the
bombings. I wasn’t sure what I should do. Should I warn those around me? I
could try and save their lives. But what if, in the process, I change things
too much and end up dying myself. It’s possible that I could change things for
the worse, everyone could die including me. I realized something though. If I
didn’t do anything, I would be filled with regret. I should at the very least
try.
So I gathered my family around me. “I know some of you
aren’t going to believe me but I just got transported back in time from the
future. This place is going to get bombed soon. I know some of you will die.
Some of you won’t. I can’t guarantee that changing the future will result in
more of us living but I’m willing to give it a try if you are willing.”
It was silent for a moment. They were mulling it over. My
father spoke up. “I’m not sure if you saw me live or die but whatever you
decide to do, I’ll support you.” The others seemed to agreed with him. So I set
about telling people where I saw the bombs fall and to stay away from those.
I felt like I did a great thing and if you want the story to end that way, then stop reading. Have your happy ending.

Still reading? Fine. Don’t blame me for being a wet blanket on this moment. Well, the bombs never came. We were invaded. Turns out I wasn’t the only one set back in time. Someone else was as well. Further back in time. And they took over the country thanks to having an army of super powered beings. So I guess what my dream is trying to say that it doesn’t matter what I do, someone else will screw things up for me.
