Stay-at-Home Parent Job Posting
I got a job recommendation from LinkedIn. This happens regularly, most of the time I’m a good fit so I apply. What’s the worst that can happen? They reject me? I’m used to it : P But this job recommendation today is a bit unique.
Stay-at-Home Parent. First of all, I didn’t know this was a job. I mean, I know it’s difficult. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve babysat before and taking care of kids is tough. And, as a parent, you don’t get to clock out. So it’s really more a lifestyle than job, right? I just didn’t know being a parent was something you could be paid for. Then again, it’s not like I would know, right?
Which leads me to my 2nd point, why does LinkedIn think I’m qualified for this?
“You like to stay home all the time, right? You’re already halfway there!”
Yeah, but staying home is the easy half of that job. It requires me to do nothing. The parent portion of that job is the part I’d have trouble with. I don’t have any kids or a spouse. Are you going to supply that? Because I’m surely not going to.
Maybe it just sees that I’m in Utah and is assuming I’m already a parent? Which wouldn’t be a bad bet necessarily. It would be right more often than not. But LinkedIn should really know better with me. “Oh right, this guy. Of course he’s a single dude in Utah. Just look at him! Polar opposite of everything a Utahn would want.” And that’s true. If someone personified Utah, it’d be super white religious, conservative and outdoorsy and I am very much none of that.
